Restarting the workshop one more time + New Years!

Happy New Decade! Today I restarted the Absolute Beginner class again… and progressed to the side barre! I am so excited that I am finally among the more advanced people!

The side barre is def more practicing on our own… the teacher taught us a few moves and left us practicing while teaching other people at the centre barre. It is actually pretty good, as we now all know what the moves are supposed to be and thus are allowed time to come to it on our own terms. We’re also supposed to remember quickly the steps that the teacher taught. Def more advanced!

Takeaways for today:

Plié

  1. when doing plié, you need to keep your turnout as much as possible and also remember to spread your feet across the floor to enable the best weighting.

  2. also when doing a plié in second position, it is easy to do a squat. That will make your hip move backward and your body no longer aligned, which is wrong. You are prone to do it when you are not engaging your abdominal muscles and your core. Make sure not to bend backward while doing a plié to form a squat by slightly tilting your hip bone forward, and make sure to engage your core.

Posture

Make sure to pull the muscle near you stomach down and the muscle near your lower abdominal area up, so that they are zipped together to elongate your back and your spine.

Et voila! Coming back to ballet posture after a long break is definitely hard!!!

P.S.

Gonna work exceptionally hard this year! My goal is to do at least 3 classes - 2 workshop classes + 1 open class each week. I went to a few open classes between this and last workshop, and I enjoyed a lot of the open classes, as they are more intense and much more of a workout, and would be a good complement to train my ballet muscles, now that I don’t need too much hand holding or detailed explanation for each movements.

This decade is gonna be a decade of growth!
